Batman Do-Over

So, finally got to see Batman Begins last night. I'd been getting poked and prodded from all angles about how I had to see it and how awesome it was and how it was the best comic book movie EV4R! We went, and it was freakin' awesome! The hype dampened the impact quite a bit, though. When everyone tells you something is that incredible, its bound to be a little below the hyped expectations, but I can live with that. Definitely worth theater price to see.

I don't know how I was expecting them to handle the existance of the previous movies, particularly considering this was the 'first appearance' of Batman and Tim Burton did that one just a little while back. Well, it basically looks like they've pretty much just ditched the other ones and started from scratch with just a mild nod to the original. I'd be willing to wager the plan is to go from here and make a new series of Batman movies in the much darker, but not quite Tim Burton surreal style, of Gotham. And, honestly: I'd go to see them, too.

The DC logo was an amusing touch that I honestly wasn't expecting. I'd gotten used to seeing so many movies posting the Marvel logo as they begin that I realized Batman Begins is the first DC comic movie I've seen since the recent boom in their popularity. Now I know to expect it come Superman, and I look forward to it prefacing another Batman.

So, go see a movie.

I still think Hulk was the best on screen character adaption from a comic. That's just me, though, so screw you guys! I'm goin' home!

Love your job or go the hell home.

I'm not the only one who puts in more than the standard 40 hour week, but I think I am the only person not complaining about it. I agree, it can be hard to put in so many hours, skip lunches, or not even have daylight when you head home, but, honestly, I could be doing a lot worse things with my time. Making video games may not always be as fun as playing video games, but for me it almost is. I like being here, I like doing what I do, and I like taking my sweet ass time to make sure what I'm doing looks and plays as cool as I can possibly make it. There's something to be said for being proud of your own work.

Seriously, folks: If you find new things to complain about every day you're at work and you have to share them with everyone around you, it may be time to reevaluate what you're doing, or at least why. If its for the money, I can understand, because nobody likes living paycheck to paycheck, but then the burden is on you to find something better to do. If you don't know what that should be, may I recommend getting an outside opinion. Just don't try and get me to agree with you about how much your job sucks because I don't really care. If I did, I'd have quit work and become a topless model by now.

Unless of course its really funny. In which case: Kudos to Will for sticking with his shitty job and bringing home tales of stifled rage and Rex Paine.

Why the hell would I do it again?!?

Because it was free... damnit. I'll always admit that I'm a consumer whore and if I see something I want, or even something related in a nifty fashion to something I want, I will acquire it. My problem is even worse than that, though! I'm also a sucker. When I come across something I'm not even sure if I want, I'll get it anyway if its a good deal. Being a bargain hunter and a collector has led me to have a lot of crap simply because I've learned where to find a good deal. I need more shelves. So, City of Heroes: why? FREE! DAMMIT! I thought I'd learned my lesson about 5 years ago when I swore off of the EverCrack, but being a super hero buff I'd always eyed CoH with a bit of curiosity. I also get to hear about the game a lot since about half a dozen people in my office play it regularly. So when they have a promotional deal where members can hand out a 14 day free trial to a friend and be entered in a contest, I was given the opportunity to play the game for free. And... I... love... it... dammit. So, I'm sucked in, and likely to buy it after the trail period runs out. I love my hobbies. But first, I need to finish something here at the office on a Saturday before I can go home and waste my evening as a super hero!

... the hell am I doing here?!?

What an interesting and random network of people! When it was one coworker, I could nod politely. When a few more people signed on, I could actually take a look and catch up a bit. Now I know too many people poking around MySpace not to be part of the community. Weird how peer pressure works...

Blog and backlog.

So I used to actually blog a bit on MySpace way back when, but haven't really been back in a while. Part of it was a format change, part of it was difficulty I remember having with the last few posts I tried to put up, and part of it was that I had less of an urge to actually write anything out when I could do smaller snippets on something like Facebook. I considered putting some kind of blog up on my personal page, but the idea of maintaining some kind of comment system... well, never mind. So, hey! Blogger! This seems solid enough.

So I'm going to copy over my old archive of posts from MySpace to here and then maybe write or share some new things in the not too distant future. We'll see.
